Shifu Kumar is a respected martial arts expert with over 40 years of experience in various disciplines, including Dacayana Eskrima and Shaolin kungfu. His dedication and patience as a martial arts trainer in Filipino martial arts have made him a standout figure in the field.
He is the founder of the Damo Shaolin Kung Fu School in India, where he teaches students the art of Shaolin Kung Fu and incorporates elements of Dacayana Eskrima, a form of Filipino martial arts. The Shaolin Temple in Henan province, China, is renowned for its interconnection of Chan Buddhism and martial arts like kungfu. For centuries, this temple has combined spiritual growth with various forms of martial arts, inspiring people all over the world. As the 34th Generation Shaolin Temple Warrior Monk, Shifu Kumar trained at the Songshan Shaolin Temple in China under the former Abbot Shi Yongxin, demonstrating his commitment to mastering his craft. With mentorship from masters such as the Late Shi Yan Zhuang, Shi Yan Chan, Shi Yan Li, and Shi Yan Jha, he has cultivated a profound understanding of Shaolin Kung Fu.
Shifu Kumar's journey doesn't end there. He is a Master in the Dacayana Eskrima System, the sole Director of Dacayana Eskrima Asia, which is affiliated with Dacayana Eskrima International. Learning from the respected Datu Oilisi Alberto A. Dacayana Jr., Kumar has elevated his skills in this Filipino martial art to impressive levels.
As a Grandmaster and Datu (Tribal Chieftain), he embodies the Olisi expertise in stick fighting. This prestigious title is granted only to those from respected Indigenous Cebuano lineage and is protected under the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act in the Philippines, making it a significant cultural honor. The Grandmaster's Eskrima skills, a crucial part of Filipino martial arts, have been passed down through his Cebuano family, evolving into the remarkable system it represents today, akin to the mastery found in kung fu and shaolin traditions.
Pekiti-Tirsia Kali is a highly effective close-quarters fighting art that originates from the Visayan region of the Philippines. Officially established in 1897 by Grand Master Conrado Tortal, Pekiti-Tirsia Kali was initially kept as a secret family system to protect Tortal land. This unique Filipino martial art was later brought to the U.S. in 1972 by Grand Master Leo Tortal Gaje Jr., the grandson of Conrado Tortal and the rightful heir to the Pekiti-Tirsia System. In addition to his teachings, Shifu Kumar, a student of Supremo Leopold Gaje Jr., GT Jared Wihongi (Founder of the PEKITI TRISA TACTICAL ASSOCIATION), and Tuhon Kit Acenas (Director of PTTA), also incorporates elements from various martial arts, including aspects of Dacayana Eskrima and kungfu, enhancing the depth of this traditional art.
